The House of Representatives has temporarily suspended its plenary session in tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who passed away during the National Assembly’s annual recess.
This gesture follows the long-standing tradition of adjourning the first sitting after the death of any federal lawmaker. Plenary is scheduled to reconvene on Wednesday, September 25th.
Trek Africa Newspaper reports that Senator Ubah, the CEO of Capital Oil, died in the UK after undergoing a medical procedure. He was due to celebrate his 53rd birthday on September 3rd.
As the National Assembly resumes after an extended recess, urgent national issues such as petrol prices, constitutional amendments, and flooding are expected to dominate discussions.
The 469 federal legislators are set to prioritize these pressing concerns, engaging in discussions that could shape policies and decisions affecting millions of Nigerians.
This resumption comes at a critical time, as the country faces various challenges that require legislative input and action.
Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah (September 3, 1971 – July 27, 2024), was a Nigerian politician, entrepreneur and businessman who served as a Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District in the Nigerian senate until his death on July 27, 2024, in London.
