Nollywood actress and Labour Party National Women Leader, Hilda Dokubo, has broken her silence following criticism over her recent visit to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Dokubo addressed the controversy in a statement shared on her Instagram page, dismissing suggestions that her meeting with Wike was an indication of disloyalty to the Labour Party or an attempt to secure political favours.

The actress explained that she visited the minister in her official capacity as the party’s National Women Leader, stressing that she did not attend the meeting as a Nollywood actress or an individual seeking a new political platform.

She said she had followed the reactions, accusations and insinuations surrounding photographs from the visit but decided to address the issue to prevent further misinformation.

Dokubo maintained that she remained a member of the Labour Party and had no intention of defecting to another political platform.

“I didn’t visit Nyesom Wike as an actress, or as Larry put it, veteran Nollywood actress. No. I did not also go there as an individual seeking political favours, or someone looking for a new political home. I have a home: the Labour Party of Nigeria. I went there as the National Women Leader of the Labour Party,” she stated.

She also distanced herself from political coalitions, insisting that she had neither joined nor pledged allegiance to any coalition.

According to her, if she eventually decides to join a coalition, she would do so openly and on her own terms rather than being pressured into it.

“I do not belong to any coalition. I have not pledged to belong to any coalition. And if I so choose to be part of any coalition, I am too big, an individual and a representative of our people, to be pushed in through the window. I will walk through that door majestically as I am, and I will announce my arrival myself,” she added.

Dokubo further criticised those interpreting the photographs from her visit as evidence of betrayal, political compromise or financial inducement.

She argued that people had drawn conclusions from the images without understanding the circumstances surrounding the meeting.

The actress maintained that photographs could sometimes create misleading impressions when important details about the events they captured were left out.

She urged Nigerians to understand the full circumstances of her visit before making further judgments about her political position.
