Gov. Sanwo-Olu Holds Security Council Meeting; Assures Lagosians of Safety, Security Ahead of Yuletide, Elections

The Executive Governor of Lagos State, Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, today Tuesday 29th September convened a meeting with the state’s security chiefs as the Centre of Excellence enters a period of heightened activities. The security council meeting, held at the State House, Marina, focused on a comprehensive review of security operations across Lagos and measures to further strengthen the system ahead of the influx of residents, visitors and tourists expected during the end-of-year period.
The engagement comes as Lagos State hosts President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as well as various religious, cultural and social activities traditionally associated with the Yuletide, in addition to the increasing tempo of political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gov. Sanwo-Olu, who assured Lagosians and visitors of sustained government commitment to public safety, said his administration would not allow criminal elements to exploit the increased movement and activities expected across the state. “We will not relent on our efforts to ensure that criminals don’t find a place for their evil activities in our state,” the Governor said. He said the security meeting provided an opportunity for the government to receive briefings on ongoing operations, assess emerging challenges and examine plans for strengthening security coordination across the state.
Those at the meeting included the Commissioner of Police, CP Fatai Tijani; Commander, NA 9 Brigade, Brig. Gen. A.O. Owolabi; Commander, NNS Beecroft, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu; Commander, NAF 651 Base Services Group, Air Commodore M.A. Imam; and Executive Secretary/CEO of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr Ayodele Ogunsan.
The meeting also had the top brass of the Lagos State Government including the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tayo Ayinde; Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso; and Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General of the State, Lawal Pedro.
The security review accentuates the Sanwo-Olu administration’s emphasis on security coordination and ensuring that the state maintains its place as Nigeria’s safest and most secure state.
