GOV. OYETOLA, TAFA BALOGUN, CP UNDIE URGE STAKEHOLDERS’ PARTNERSHIP FOR EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY POLICING

Osun State Police Command on 17th December, 2020 held sensitization workshop for stakeholders at the Local Government Service Commission Hall, Abere on Community Policing. This is a continuation of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu NPM, mni giant strides to actualize the goals of the improved and reinvigorated Community Policing Strategy. In his lecture, IGP Tafa Balogun (Rtd), NPM, CFR, FWC the originator of the Community Policing in Nigeria enumerated the importance of the renewed Community Policing Strategy and the roles of the Police, Community Leaders/stakeholders/citizen, Traditional Rulers and the Government which he terms ‘Rectangular synergy’. He notes that it is the best way to go, especially in this trying time that the country is facing security challenges. He stressed further that the EndSARS saga would have been averted if Community Policing principle is effective in the country.
Speaking during the workshop, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adie J. Undie psc(+), ably represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration DCP Reis Obafunke while delivering her speech, reassures the citizens of the state, the command’s commitment to ensuring safety of lives and properties. And needs to practically involve them in the provision of security coverage in the State through effective Community Policing.
In his address, the executive Governor of Osun state, Alhaji Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola ably represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Benedict Adegboyega Alabi commended the security agencies in the state for making the state peaceful and emphasized the commitment of the State Government in supporting the Police to effectively discharge their duties. He also urge the citizens to give prompt and useful information to the Police to enhance their effectiveness and reduce crimes to the barest minimum.
Similarly, traditional rulers in attendance emphasized the importance of involving them in the recruitment of Police and urged the Government to look into the welfares of the police and logistics to ensure their effectiveness in order to shun all act of corrupt practices.
The Workshop was well attended by stakeholders drawn from the Government officials, traditional rulers, sister security agencies, religious leaders, market men/women, transport unions, artisans, physical challenged and youths in the State as well as Area Commands, Divisions and Formations of the Police Command.
