Gov Mala Buni gives food items, building materials, Cash to 2000 Gashua victims through SEMA

About 2000 Households Benefited with Food Items, Building Materials Support, Cash Stimulus and Agricultural Support

“The recent magnitude of disasters increases the time it takes for communities to recover – a process that can be further complicated by repeat events in areas already struggling to bounce back and difficulty in accessing communities”.

Since the report of cases of flood disaster across the state, Governor Mai Mala Buni CON directed SEMA to ensure victims are provided support within available resources.

Preliminary data from desk review, LGA data, virtual analysis and community leaders showed over 7000 Households were affected in Bade LGA across 58 communities.

 

Depending on the severity and need of each Household/ Community, SEMA is concurrently responding across Bade and other LGAs affected by 2022 flooding within available resources.

On Saturday 22nd October 2022, about 2000 Victims have received Government support thus far as follows:

1. 736 FLOOD victims from Katuzu Gashua supported with Building Materials, Food Items and other NFIs.
2. 250 Flood Victims from Gashua Town profilled and registered for Cash Stimulus of 44,000 Naira each supported by CARE International.
3. 965 Flood Victims from Communities outside Gashua town enroled to benefit from Flood Recovery Agriculture intervention supported by NEMA.

 

The increasing need and demands from victims across affected communities due to extreme flood cases is anticipated, to help in cushioning this needs SEMA will ensure response is guided through collaboration with local government, traditional and religious leaders and guided further by severity and needs of victims.

SEMA team met with His Royal Highness Mai Bade Alhaji Abubakar Unar Suleiman who aplauded Governor Bunis effort and further call on SEMA to speed the process and ensure more victims are supported.

The Executive Secretary of SEMA Dr Goje Mohammed while delivering the Katuzu support , aplauded the resilience demonstrated by the victims during this trying moments and assured other victims of Governor Bunis drive to support them accordingly.

Victims Validation and support will continue across other communities affected by the 2022 flooding.
