Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has admonished couples to exemplify godliness and give ample time for integration as they embrace the marriage institution.

Governor Eno handed down the admonition while addressing guests at the marriage ceremony between Jesimiel Damina, daughter of prominent Uyo-based preacher, Pastor Abel Damina, and her Nasarawa State -born heartthrob, Salem Ibrahim.

The Governor congratulated the couple and their families on the marriage and for marrying early enough to grow together, by disagreeing and agreeing together, making mistakes, correcting them, and understanding each other better in the process.

Emphasising modesty in managing gender-based roles, Governor Eno cautioned the bride to be diligent, while reflect the high moral and religious values she represents in her marriage and the groom to eschew all tendencies of domestic violence.

According to him, “for the bride and groom, it is a good time to get married. People wait until they acquire everything but I tell you, the wife or husband of your youth is your best shot. You grow together, make mistakes together and correct yourselves, never having a physical fight because I regard any man that lays his hands on his wife as an animal. That’s my opinion.

“Also, anybody who comes out of this church, being fathered by Pastor Abel Damina, will make a good home. So you now know the responsibility you carry, being his biological daughter. The world looks at you with high expectations, and I know God will give you the grace to live his name and to carry on with all the things he represents.”

He thanked Pastor Damina and other christian leaders for their support during 2023 Governorship election and described him as his trusted supporter.

“I want to thank you so much and acknowledge publicly the contributions you made. I will still look forward to those counsel and pieces of advice you give from time to time to me. The beautiful thing about you is that you do it quietly. It’s the best thing to do, and I thank you,” Governor Eno said.

In a sermon titled “the Love of God” , culled from John 3:16, The General Overseer of the Redeemed Evangelical Mission, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, admonished that only if Christians could reflect God’s kind of love, there will be no need for contest over submission among couples, as anyone who has received such love would sacrifice anything for it.

He described God’s kind of love as not dependent on what one does or deserves, but ironclad, irrevocable, immeasurable, irresistible, and non-transactional, with ever-renewable mercy and inexhaustible deposit of forgiveness for offences.

Highpoint of the event was the solemnization of the holy matrimony and declaration of Jesimiel Damina and Salem Ibrahim as husband and wife by Bishop Okonkwo, after a session of several declarations of commitment led by Bishop Fred Addo of the International Praise Cathedral, Kaduna State, Nigeria.
