GIANT STRIDES: LAGOS’S YOUNGEST MALE CHAIRMAN, HON. RASAQ IBRAHIM GIVES ACCOUNT OF 2 YEARS OF IMPECCABLE COMMUNITY SERVICE

The local council administration represents the closest tier of government to the people. Whatever happens here goes a long way in determining the joy or otherwise that people derive from a democratic government. It also provides a veritable platform for young politicians to prove their mettle in a democracy.

It’s been two years of landmark efforts aimed at robust community development for the good people of Coker/Aguda LCDA as demonstrated by Lagos’s youngest male Chairman, Hon. Rasaq Olamilekan Ibrahim.

 

Excited about the giant strides, his predecessor Hon. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe passed her vote of confidence on the administration of the young man fondly called RIO, ‘It is 2 years that we had a new Chairman and see how he is doing mighty things. I am happy to be associated with our Chairman, the youngest male Chairman in Lagos. He is very ambitious, positively aggressive, and committed. God will continue to give him the wisdom to guide this council.’

 

Hon. RIO has performed credibly with the resources that are available to the LGA/LCDA system in Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre, Lagos state. He told Trek Africa Newspaper recently, ‘We are doing all these projects with federal allocation that we get. We just have to plan with what we have. We don’t do more than our capacity.’

On the occasion of the commissioning of the Orile-Iganmu Primary Healcare Centre, Hon. Olamilekan used the opportunity to deliver his record of giant strides in service of the community. He has touched every aspect of living of his people. This is to show that two years can be impactful when one is committed to service.

In infrastructure, Hon. Rasaq Ibrahim Olamilekan reeled out a long list of projects. This include ‘Purchase of 3 brand new 500KVA transformers; Construction of new drainage and road at emokpaire street; facilitated the supply and installation of solar streetlights for all streets in Coker Aguda LCDA through Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila; facilitated the construction of over 20 roads in coker aguda Lcda; filling of the swamped playing ground of Jinadu Aiyetoro primary school for children to observe their play time; running of new water and waste pipes for the entire council secretariat, Aguda; construction of 9 standard and modern new borehole system within the seven wards. Re-construction of box culverts/slabs at Hassan Idowu by oluwalose street, Savage street, Falohun street, Alice Tinubu junction, Karimu street by coker bridge, Sholabomi off Oladimeji street, Adefowope off Adegunwa street, Wosilat/Jubrilla street, Okpere junction (in-view), Alli Olanipekun junction (in view), rehabilitation of deteriorated interlocking section of Yisa Oroki junction, repair of failed interlocked section at Opeloyeru/Orowunmi junction, Palliative works on bad roads including Eleganza market, Joel oguntade, Yisa braimoh, Bello Tapa, Alhaja Hassana street, Joel oguntade str, Jubrilla str, Araromi Okeode str., wosilat aina str., Ashiata street, Hassana street, oyebode street, Solo-ogun street, Omogiafor street, Funsho Ajayi street etc.’

 

‘Rehabilitation and asphalting of Yisa Oroki street, Rehabilitation of failed section of coker bridge, Rehabilitation of bad portion and inclusion of speed stoppers at thomas animashaun street., Rehabilitation of yeside-abeke street in aguda community, Rehabilitation of censor bus stop, enitan street and others, Rehabilitation of collapsed fence, drilling of bore hole and construction of new gate at LA primary school Orile Iganmu, Facilitated the rehabilitation of badagry expressway by lagos state public works, Complete renovation of the supervisors and special assistants office, Construction of drainage for sule close, Construction of drainage Ago-Egbo drainage, Construction of road at brown close, aguda community, Construction of 9 standard and modern new borehole system within the seven wards, Council secretariat, Aguda (plus treatment plant), Oroki street, Alagba street, Iron market, Odunjo street, Orile primary health centre, Olunuga/Osemeka junction, Hassan Idowu street, Araromi street off Abu street, Construction of 5 public toilets within the council premises, Construction of road at Soloki street, Construction of road and kerbs at Ojuolape street, Construction works in the council court, Construction of sixteen roads by Femi Gbajabiamila, Construction of Falohun street (ongoing), Construction of Alafia street (ongoing), Construction of sule close road (ongoing), Construction of Emokpaire road, Construction of community road, Construction of mini stadium by Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, Construction of fire service by Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, and Renovation and furnishing of the office of the supervisory councilors.’

 

The Coker-Aguda boss then listed the successes in health sector which include ‘reconstruction of orile Iganmu primary health centre, Medical outreach for senior citizen in Orile Iganmu, Purchase of new generator for pry health centre, Aguda, Replacement of all standing and ceiling fans in pry health centre, Aguda, Monthly supply of funds to primary health centre, Supply and air conditioning system, standing and ceiling fans to aguda primary health centre, Facilitation of free medical mission to coker community, Medical outreach plus eye test in aguda community, and Organizing monthly aerobics for youths within the local council.’

 

In education, the young administrator noted: ‘Summer coaching for primary, secondary schools and presentation of gift items to the best student, Organizing year 2022 anticultism programme, Supporting less privilege with free GCE and JAMB forms yearly, Organised Spelling competition and one day Chairman and vice chairman, Organizing free training for mobile and web development, Organizing essay writing during the celebration of children day party with students, Organizing one day chairman for the best student from spelling bee, Organizing special children party for the students within the walls of coker aguda Lcda, and Organizing anti cultism lectures for the students within coker aguda Lcda.’

In environment and security, he mentioned: ‘Cleaning of drainages across Coker Aguda LCDA, Tree planting for year 2022, Stakeholders meeting with LAWMA on solid waste, and Facilitated the clearing of system five canal by lagos state (ongoing). Purchase of three new security vehicles, Security meeting with CDC/CDA to resolve civil unrest in Orile Iganmu, Rehabilitation of collapsed fence at Enitan primary school, Aguda, Stakeholders meeting on security medium in our schools, and Facilitated the desilting of System five canal in coker aguda LCDA.’

Hon. Olamilekan has also contributed to poverty alleviation among the Coker-Aguda residents. His efforts include: ‘Cash empowerment for youth, aged and physically challenged, Monthly financial assistant to residence and staff of coker aguda LCDA, Payment for staff surgery, celebration of festive season with elderly Citizens within coker aguda Lcda, and sponsorship of youth to Jaji foundation football competition.’

He assured that he will not rest on his oars in bringing positive development to the Coker/Aguda LCDA, commenting on the health facility in Orile-Iganmu, he noted: ‘Be rest assured that our administration will not stop in giving you dividend of democracy and the equipment you will be seeing here are not for photo shops. They are here to stay and to serve the needs of the good people of Orile-Iganmu, Coker and its environs to the glory of God Almighty.’
