‘FRSC APP IS A ONE-STOP SHOP’ FOR TRAFFIC SAFETY – CORP MARSHAL SHEHU MOHAMMED • mobile application set for lunch

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) is set to launch a mobile application which will enhance safety and security on Nigerian roads. National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP obtained this information at a media briefing held at the FRSC Zone RS2 Public Enlightenment Hall, Ojodu Lagos where the FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed shared his vision and agenda.
On the new technological innovation, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed hinted: ‘The FRSC App that we are introducing as have said is a one-stop shop and is to ease business and when you have an app whereby you can do all the thing you can at the comfort of your zone, collect you driver license, checking your plate number, getting safety alert.
‘It is a one stop shop that can do anything you want at the comfort of your zone, without even coming to have contact with FRSC officials or FRSC office. As for the legacy, one thing I’m sure of is I’ll leave FRSC better than what I met, with sense of integrity, trust and civility to the public.’
The Corps Marshal revealed that there are some common reasons for traffic crashes in Nigeria. ‘In terms of road construction, we can see what is happening in this country. In some places crashes occur because of bad roads but we are seeing the opposite in Abuja where crashes occur because of good road. We are all aware that speed constitutes over 70% of causes of road crashes.’
‘FERMA has the mandate to repair roads but when road is under construction, it goes out of FERMA radar, it is strictly handled by Federal Ministry of Works. So when any road is under construction no matter how bad it is, FERMA can not come and intervene.’
On the agency’s relationship with the Police, Shehu Mohammed stated: ‘Police are our friends, we work together and they are always supporting us, and by law, by our mandate we are a custodian of motor vehicle identification scheme, and that is what we know and that is what we are teaching and that is the law they gave us, we don’t have issues with the police.’
In attendance at the media briefing were: the Corps Public Enlightenment, FRSC, CC Olusegun Ogungbemide; Lagos and Ogun Zonal Commanding Officer, ACM Jonathan Owoade; Lagos Sector Commander, CC Patrick Davou Dung, CC Cyril Matthew and other senior officers of the Corps.
