By Trek Africa Newspaper

The FCT Police Command has confirmed the rescue of five individuals from the debris of a collapsed building at Vidaz Estate in the Sabon Lugbe Extension of Abuja. Earlier reports indicated that around 40 people were trapped under the rubble of the storey building when it collapsed on Saturday at approximately 5 pm.
In a statement issued by SP Josephine Adeh, the Police Public Relations Officer for the FCT, it was noted that no casualties have been reported. Preliminary investigations revealed that the building had previously been demolished by the FCT authorities due to its illegal construction on acquired land.
Adeh explained that scavengers at the site, attempting to retrieve scrap metal, compromised the integrity of the already unstable structure, leading to its secondary collapse. She urged residents to adhere to the boundaries of demolished properties to prevent similar incidents in the future.
