The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) has condemned a recent attack on its officials by armed thugs while on official duty at Dr. Kennedy Okonkwo Way, Osapa London in the Lekki area of the State.

The General Manager of the Agency, Arc. Gbolahan Oki, said the officers were attacked while attempting to remove an illegal structure on a road setback after removal notices had earlier been served to the owner.

He explained that it was in the process of removing the contraventions that some armed thugs descended on the enforcement gang, beat them up and destroyed the vehicles taken to the site.

Lamenting the incessant attacks on Government officials carrying out lawful assignments, Oki vowed that the perpetrators of the heinous act would be arrested and prosecuted.

Maintaining that the attack would not deter the Agency from carrying out its mandate of ensuring that buildings in Lagos are constructed in line with stipulated codes, Oki insisted that all structures must be safe, secure, and habitable for present and future generations.

The General Manager urged Lagos residents to always cooperate with LASBCA and other agencies of government in the built environment as they are out to ensure a seamless development of the State through sustainable practices in building construction.

His words: “l call on all Lagosians to cooperate fully with the government to ensure that the right thing is done, especially in the built industry. Get all your necessary permits and contact LASBCA before you start construction so we can ensure that the right things are done at every stage of your building construction as this will reduce cases of building collapse in the State”.
