El-Rufai Dares Critics: ‘I’ll Swear On The Qur’an, I Never Stole As Governor!’ Written By Oshiobugie John Nasir El-Rufai, the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, has firmly denied accusations of embezzling public funds during his time in office, stating that he is prepared to swear on the Qur’an to prove his innocence.

Speaking during a Hausa program on Freedom Radio Kaduna on October 1, El-Rufai explained that he entered politics to serve the people, not to enrich himself. He expressed that he was content with his financial status even before becoming governor and emphasized that his conscience is clear regarding public funds.

El-Rufai noted that despite accusations of financial misappropriation, no specific evidence has been provided to show where any money went missing or who allegedly took it. He also lamented that his political allies were being targeted by anti-corruption agencies like the ICPC and EFCC, suggesting that these moves were aimed at tarnishing their reputations. Nonetheless, the former governor said he has left the matter to divine judgment, having prayed for God’s intervention.

It’s worth recalling that the Kaduna State House of Assembly had previously indicted El-Rufai’s administration for allegedly mismanaging over N423 billion during his eight-year tenure. Both El-Rufai and his associates have consistently refuted the claims, calling the investigation a witch hunt orchestrated by political opponents.
