Less than 48 hours after assuming office as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force CID Abuja, DIG Babatunde Johnson Kokumo has nabbed a fraud suspect who duped Adenike Oladapo, the adopted daughter of Olugbon of Orile Igbon, Ogbomosho and Vice Chairman, Oyo State Council of Obas and Chiefs, HRM Oba Francis Olushola Alao (Akinbola 1), of Seventy Eight Million Naira (N78 million) under the guise of wanting to help her get a property in Nigeria.

The respected monarch, Oba Francis Olushola Alao, engaged the new DIG In-Charge of FCID, Abuja, DIG Johnson Kokumo, he pleaded that the DIG Force CID police chief should intervene. By DIG Johnson Kokumo’s swift intervention, the suspect was re-arrested yesterday and is now at Alagbon Close for subsequent movement to Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The fraud suspect, Mojisola Oluyinka noted to have top guns within the Nigeria Police and society at large escaped at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport as against the plan to nab her as soon as she returns to Nigeria. To the shock of the petitioner, when Mojisola was tracked to her boyfriend’s house and taken to Isolo Police station, she was again released and allowed to go scot free by CSP Bayo Aina at the order of an unnamed Commissioner of Police. This happened at Murtala Mohammed local airport where she was supposed to board a flight to Abuja for interrogation at the Force Headquarters.

Suspect, Mojisola Oluyinka

It took the direct phone call of one of Yoruba’s paramount kings, Kabiyesi Francis Alao to DIG Johnson Kokumo to get her re-arrested, taken to Alagbon Close, and will be moved to Abuja in the new week. Mojisola Oluyinka came to Nigeria to have a big birthday bash for her mother in Abeokuta before this arrest. Mojisola, who also has a British citizenship, is said to be one who visits Nigeria almost on a monthly basis.

Trek Africa Newspaper wonders how fraudsters proudly move around the society as ‘the untouchables’ and affirms that police officers who get involved in infractions should be named and shamed as championed by the acting Police PRO, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

Narrating her ordeal, the adopted daughter of Oba Francis Olushola Alao, Adenike Oladapo revealed to Trek Africa Newspaper: ‘I have known her for about 15 years but we became very close 3 years ago. We started discussing about properties because I want to have a place I can call home in Nigeria.

She asked a construction manager to call me and we discussed for about 3 weeks. But I still maintained that I can’t do business with him because I don’t know him.’
‘Mojisola told me that the man is her brother-in-law and she trusts him that I should pay the money into her account then she will supervise the property for me and she will pay instalmentally. By August 2021, I started paying for the property to be ready in December 2021. I finished paying a total of N78 million in October – N75 million for the property and N3 million for her to help me get some furnishings into the house’, Trek Africa Newspaper gathered.

‘By December, she came with a story and a letter that she missed her payment with the property company and the value of the property has increased by N20 million. I told her that I have paid all the money and that shouldn’t affect me as I have finished paying by October. Since December last year, I didn’t get the key to the house and she didn’t provide refund.’

On how they were able to arrest Ms. Oluyinka, she continued: ‘I had to wait for her to come home because she is planning to have a big party for her mother. So Kabiyesi filed a petition to Abuja so that she can be arrested. I got a detail of about 3 policemen to follow me to the airport but somehow, we didn’t see her. One of the policemen suggested that we could track her by her phone number and that’s how we got her at her boyfriend’s house. She was arrested and taken to Isolo Police Station where identified her.’

‘So the policemen asked that we go together to Abuja but I said I needed to see Kabiyesi first but that they should take the suspect there and I would join them on Monday. Surprisingly, they released the lady at Murtala Mohammed Local Airport. I was shocked. Through the help of DIG Kokumo, she has been re-arrested and taken to Alagbon close.’

On the role that DIG Kokumo played, the Kabiyesi of Olugbon was full of praises. Oba Francis Alao said: ‘DIG Kokumo has started on a very good note. Immediately I informed him about the incident, he gave directive to CSP Bayo Aina to produce the suspect from wherever she is and be detained in Alagbon.

The lady has been re-arrested.’
It would be recalled that Trek Africa Newspaper had broken the news of the appointment of DIG Babatunde Johnson Kokumo on Thursday, 31st March 2022 as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Force CID Abuja by the express command of the excellent administrator, IGP Usman Alkali Baba. DIG Kokumo displayed administrative competence and operational prowess during his time as DIG in charge of Research and Planning, as the Commissioner of Police in Edo state, and in other previous roles.
‘It is expected that the new DIG in charge of Force CID Abuja will infuse fresh vigour to flush criminals and criminality out of the nooks and crannies of the country’, Trek Africa Newspaper had predicted on Thursday, 31st March 2022.
