Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi Allegedly Commits Suicide In Oyo

A Deputy Commissioner of Police serving with the Force Criminal and Investigation Department, Alagbon Annex, Lagos State, DCP Gbolahan Olugbemi, has on Monday, reportedly committed suicide in his private house who have returned home for Easter at his hometown in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The deceased who was an aide de camp of late Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, a former governor of Oyo State during his 11-month tenure as defacto governor in 2006.

His death was discovered in the house on Monday afternoon; however, it is still unknown who found the body.

A source close to the family told our correspondent on the telephone on Tuesday in Ibadan, the state capital, that Olugbemi, who normally visited his hometown during the Easter celebrations, told his aides at the weekend to go to their various towns to celebrate with their family members.

The source said, “Yes, he committed suicide. His body was found hanging in his house yesterday (Monday). He stays alone, and he normally comes home for Easter celebrations.

“This time, he told his aides to go and celebrate with their family members in their various homes. Only God knows what could have prompted him to commit suicide.”

“He was formerly staying with his mother in the same house he built for her around Randa area of Ogbomoso, later he built another house located at Petros Academy Street, Federal Lowcost area and he thereafter moved to the new building. He was unmarried,” another source stated.

The police have already cordoned off the area, although groups of supporters were seen, whispering quietly about the situation.

“Sometimes he came home with police security. In fact l saw him recently driving personally into his beautiful mansion,” a source said.

The Oyo State Police Command spokesperson, Adewale Osifeso, did not pick up repeated calls made to him seeking his comments on the issue.
