COVID-19 LOCKDOWN: KWARA FIRST LADY DISTRIBUTES PALLIATIVES TO THE VULNERABLE

The First Lady of kwara State Her Excellency Dr (Mrs) Olufolake Abdulrazaq in Ilorin on Friday distributed palliatives to vulnerable and less privileged members of the society.
According to the first lady, the donation is an initiative of the Northern Governors Wives Forum to cushion the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the Novel Coronavirus pandemic.
Over 200 vulnerable households in the state benefitted from the donation.
The first lady while presenting the palliatives urged well meaning Nigerians to donate to the poor and vulnerable at this time.
“In order to cushion the effect of the coronavirus lockdown on the vulnerable groups, it is the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum initiative to distribute palliatives to indigent and vulnerable groups in the 19 Northern states.
“It is evident that this is not an easy period for all of us Nigerians, especially those amongst us who are in dire need.
“Therefore these palliatives are targeted at assisting such people to cushion the effect of the economic hardship caused by the pandemic.
“As we go through the month of Ramadan, we implore the more able amongst us to help needy Nigerians through this difficult period.
“We however remain confident that we shall come out stronger as a nation and overcome the present challenges of the pandemic”, she said.
In a message by the Chairperson of the Northern Govrrnors Wives Forum , Her Excellency Dr Amina Bello of Niger state, she stated that
“Members of the Forum agreed to reach out to vulnerable groups in each of their various states between Friday the 1st and Saturday the 2nd of May 2020 to provide Food items to ease hardship during the lockdown”.
Some of the beneficiaries who spoke, appreciated the first lady’s kind gesture saying it would go a long way in helping them at this time.
Earlier the sum of N100,000 was presented to the Kwara Ladies Football Club by the first lady as part of palliatives to cushion the effect of the coronavirus pandemic in the state.
She said that the money was part of her contribution to cushion the effect the lockdown may have on the club.
In his response, Chairman of the team Mr Daudu Jimoh appreciated the first lady adding that the money will be used judiciously while praying that God will put an end to the pandemic.
In another development, the Association of Female Tailors in Kwara presented 200 locally made face masks to the first lady.
The President of the association Mrs Elizabeth Animashaun said that the donation was part of the association’s contribution to curbing the spread of COVID-19.
The first lady appreciated the kind gesture of the association adding that the masks will be used for the purpose meant for, and that fair distribution will be done across the state.
It would be recalled that the First Lady of Kwara State Dr (Mrs) Abdulrazaq and the Ajike people Support Center had earlier made donations of personal protective equipments and disinfectants to the infectious diseases treatment center, sobi, ilorin, the isolation center in Offa and general hospitals across the state to support the fight against COVID-19.
In the same vein the First Lady had also presented token sums to 66 groups known to her office and food items to the kwara state children reception home and Olorunda psychiatric home where a donation of blankets was made in addition to the food items to cushion the effect of the lockdown occasioned by the pandemic.
