Concerned Elders of Southern Ijaw Local Government Area have sent a save our soul message to Governor Douye Diri and the Leadership of the PDP in the State to intervene and maintain the Zoning of the Local Government Chairmanship position among Constituencies in the area.
A statement signed by the Chairman of the Forum, Elder Opukiri Noel, Constituency 2, Secretary, Dr. kirigbolo Damateidei Constituency 3, and the Spokesman, Engr.Timipadei Diton, Constituency 1, noted that they are privy to a secret move from a dependable source in Government House a plot hatched by some self seeking interest groups to impose a brother of General Amagbein who is from Constituency 3 as Chairman of Southern Ijaw Local Government Council.
The Concerned Elders hinted that Southern Ijaw Local Government Council is one of leading Local Governments in the State and should not be entrusted in the hands of a man with no record of relevant educational qualification, experience and bereft of ideas of management of Council administration.
The Concerned Elders informed that the present Southern Ijaw Local Government Chairman, Chief Nigeria Kia Ebidoughebofa is from Constituency 3 and will amount to injustice to allow someone from same locality to succeed him.
They stated unequivocally that it is the turn of Constituency 1 and 2 to produce the next Chairman and advised those putting pressure on Governor Douye Diri to tow the path of honour in order not to over-heat the polity.
The Concerned Elders urged Governor Douye Diri not to succumb to pressures from people close to him with vested interest to destroy the age long zoning arrangement that have brought peace, unity, stability and given the people sense of belonging in the area while stating that Southern Ijaw Local Government is in dire need of a credible and responsible leader with relevant educational qualification, experience with proven integrity to become the next Chairman .
