It is a thing of joy when a man attains the Golden Jubilee. It is significant and glorious because not everyone that is born gets the rare opportunity. This is why the Executive Vice Chairman of Coker-Aguda LCDA, Barr. Matthew Olaleye Olanrewaju decided to celebrate big. However, he took a break from the norm of calling a big party, wining, dining and dancing and leaving the hall with no impact. Barr. Olaleye decided to bless 50 elders and 50 youths with a cash token, 10kg of rice and other food items to cushion the effects of January which is generally considered a harsh month.
The excited celebrant, Olanrewaju Olaleye Matthew told Trek Africa Newspaper, ‘It is my birthday. It is tagged 50-50@50 – the first 50 stands for 50 elders, the second 50 stands for 50 youths, and the third for my birthday. It is not an empowerment. I am just giving a cash token and 10kg of rice to ease the tension of January. You know January is funny. Instead of calling people and they eat and then go, I said why not just give back to the community and impact them. I just want to tell my community that I love them. I know they also love me and I appreciate them.’

‘I feel so happy today to have many of our leaders here to celebrate with me. This shows that there is an element of relationship between us. I feel so honoured, and I am proud and happy. Hon. Rasaq Olamilekan Ibrahim is my boss. He has given me a chance to work with him. He is my boss, he is my friend, we do things together. He is a success.’
On his part, the visibly impressed Executive Secretary of Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Abdulrrazaq Balogun added 25 more persons to the community support. Dr. Balogun remarked: ’I want to wish the celebrant a happy birthday. It is a thing of joy for anybody to attain the age of 50 which is not very common today because of the pandemic. But as he has attained the age of 50, I want to thank God for his life and more importantly, it is appealing to me that a Vice Chairman can deem it fit to empower 50 people with his birthday, even with his meagre salary. We should be thankful for that. This is why I was able to further empower 25 people. He has done a very good gesture to the people of Coker-Aguda LCDA.’

‘This is something that all of us should emulate. If we contribute our bits and pieces, the community will prosper and people will live well. We want to urge others to follow suit. The N10,000, N20,000 that looks small is big for this people selling petty things. When we give, we earn more nd the people are better for it.’
The three term former member of the Lagos House of Assembly representing Surulere constituency 2 advised the duo running the affairs of Coker-Aguda, ‘For the chairman, he is new, we have to try to lead him right, we must advise him well and we hope that those things he has seen his predecessors done well, he will continue to emulate. He should ensure that his door is open, you have to open to consultations because democracy is for the people.’

Also present at the event, the Commissioner in the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Hakeem Ajasa Bamgbola expressed: ‘I want to wish him a happy birthday, long life and prosperity. I also want to appreciate him for giving back to the community and that is why we are here. May God continue to bless him.’
‘For some of us who are public office holders, when we are marking our birthday, it is good to extend the hand of support to members of the community. I want to encourage others to emulate the Vice Chairman. For me, I have a foundation. In March, we will reach the third year. We are going to empower people – widows, elderly, we will also look at the orphanage homes and see what we can do to support them.’

On the relationship that exists between the Chairman, Hon. Rasaq Lekan Ibrahim and his Vice, Barrister Matthew Olaleye, the commissioner said: ‘I think they are doing wonderfully well. There is a co-operation between them. I will advise that they continue with what the former Chairman, Hon. Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe has left as a legacy. They should keep the flag flying. We will continue to support them to achieve the programmes and objectives of the party’.
The chairman of the occasion and respected elder of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Surulere Local Govt, Elder David O. Adenekan said: ‘At 50, you have touched the lives of some of us here. God will continue to bless you to do more. Politics is about service. You are not in competition with anybody. You must respect your chairman and be closer to God. When you do this, it shall be well with you in Jesus name. This is just the beginning, bigger and greater things await you.’

A colleague Vice Chairman, Hon. Dayo Oshinowo from Mosan-Okunola LCDA who also doubles as Deputy Vice Chairman of the Association of Vice Chairmen, Lagos praised the Barrister. ‘One thing that marveled me is that his kind of celebration is to give back to the society. I like this kind of celebration. He tagged it 50-50 which is appreciating God’s grace with empowerment. Olaleye is a gentleman, cooperative, and nice guy of the association.’
Some of the beneficiaries of the kind gesture shared their joy with Trek Africa Newspaper. Rasheedat Olanrewaju affirmed: ‘I collected money and rice. I pray that he will add many more years and that he will rise greater and greater.’

Mrs Obiageli shared: ‘I want to say thank you to the Vice Chairman. This is the first of its kind. For him to think of the society, I pray that God will be with him and protect him because he has touched so many lives today. My advice to other politicians is to emulate our Vice Chairman. It is a good thing to emulate him and think of the society.’
Adelabu Samuel, a fashion designer said: ‘I want to say happy birthday to our Vice Chairman, Matthew Olaleye. I wish the Vice Chairman good luck, success and I encourage him to do more of this as he increases in the position. This has inspired me so much and I am praying that God will increase me to be able to give back to the community. This is something worth emulating. Other politicians should emulate, it will make people feel their impact.’
