Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, has described the death of the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Armed Forces, General Attahiru Ibrahim, as a big blow to Nigeria.

Trek Africa Newspaper reported that Attahiru who succeeded Major General Tukur Buratai (retd) as the COAS after his appointment in January 2021 died alongside seven others on Friday evening.

According to reports, the ill-fated Beachcraft 350 aircraft crashed at the airport’s runway of the Kaduna International Airport around 6 pm.

Reacting to the shocker, Fani-Kayode urged Nigerians to engage in prayers, noting that he senses a lot of changes are coming in the country very soon.

His statement read: “The Chief of Army Staff of the Nigerian Armed Forces, General Attahiru Ibrahim, has been killed in an air crash together with a number of his officers and aides. This is a monumental tragedy and a big blow to our nation. May their souls rest in peace and may God help Nigeria.

“I sense that a lot of changes are coming in our country very soon. Pray hard, have courage, have faith and stay, safe, strong and calm. The Lord of Hosts is with us. His will shall be done, His counsel shall stand, His purpose shall be established and His name shall be glorified!”

This is just as a former Kaduna Central Senatorial District representative, Senator Shehu Sani, consoled with the Nigerian Army and the family of the departed souls.

“The death of the Chief of Army Staff Attahiru Ibrahim and others in a plane crash is a national tragedy. May their souls Rest In Peace. My deepest condolences to @HQNigerianArmy, their families and the nation,” he said.
