CHANGE OF GUARD: COMMANDANT EVERESTUS CHIMEZIE OBIYO RESUMES DUTY AS NSCDC ANAMBRA COMMANDANT

Commandant Everestus Chimezie Obiyo JP

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps has witnessed a change of guard as, Commandant Everestus Chimezie Obiyo JP has taken over as the State Commandant from Commandant Vincent Ogu JP.

In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) by the Command’s Spokesperson, DSC Okadigbo Edwin stated that, “This is to inform the general public that Commandant Everestus Chimezie Obiyo JP has officially assumed duty today, Wednesday 22nd of September, 2021 as the thirteen (13) substantive  State Commandant of  NSCDC Anambra State Command. He succeeds Comdt. Vincent Ogu JP who is now redeployed to National Headquarters Abuja.”

Comdt. Obiyo who hails from Obowo L.G.A Imo State is a seasoned Officer who has demonstrated operational deftness and administrative acumen in past positions held.  Before his recent posting as Anambra State Commandant he was the Commandant in charge of Intelligence and Investigation Department at the NSCDC Zone E, Zonal Headquarters Owerri, Imo State. He has served as State Commandants in Kogi State, Ogun State and Enugu State respectively.  He has a vast knowledge of the job haven also served in over twenty one (21) state commands of the federation and held several appointments among them are :- Head of Operations Department, Cross River State,  Head of  Intelligence and Investigation  Department,  Abia State Command, Head of Head of Anti-Vandalism Unit,  Kano State,  Head of  Operations Department, Gombe State  Head of Administration Department , Anambra State and Zone H Zonal Headquarters Markurdi as Commandant in-charge of Operations.

Comdt. Obiyo Started his academic pursuit in far away Cameroon before returning to Nigeria for his secondary education at Obowo, Imo State. He gained admission into University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) where he obtained Diploma in Social Work before leaving for British Society of Commerce London (Nigeria Center) and bagged B.Sc. in Administration. Not done yet he proceeded to old Imo State University now Abia State University Uturu for his Bachelor of Arts, B. A (Hons) in History. Comdt Obiyo holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from University of Calabar (UNICAL) and a Master’s Degree in Psychology/ Administration from same University of Calabar, Cross River State.

He had earlier worked briefly with the  Academy Press Lagos before joining the Nigerian Prisons Service as Assistant Superintendent of Prisons in 1991. Due to his brilliant performance he rose to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Prisons (CSP) in 2000. In 2005, he joined the services of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the same rank as Chief Superintendent of Corps and rose through ranks to his present rank of Commandant.

Comdt. Obiyo has attended several courses on Strategic Management and Leadership, both within and outside the Country which include but not limited to Nigeria Prisons Staff College, Kaduna, Weapon Handling and Combat Maneuvering, 82 Division Headquarters Nigerian Army, Enugu, Citizenship and Leadership Training Course in Port Harcourt, Advanced and Strategic Management Course, North Lake College, Dallas Texas, United State of America (USA).
He attended the Advanced Weapon Handling Techniques and Crisis Management Course at Nigerian Army 82 Div. Enugu in 2009, in 2017, he was in Israel for a Counter Terrorism / Insurgency, in 2018 he went for Counter Forces, Intelligence, Surveillance and Offensive Course in Parkistan.

Comdt. Obiyo is a member of many professional bodies and has bagged many awards. He is a versatile officer with impeccable track records in crime fighting, an advocate of participatory management, and game changer. He is a devout Christian, a practicing Catholic, happily married with children.

The State Commandant solicits the maximum support and cooperation of Anambrarians and residents alike as he sets out to discharge the constitutional mandate of NSCDC in the State.
