CARSPO 2026: Police, Security Experts Converge In Imo To Develop Election Security Roadmap For 2027 Polls

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is set to host the 6th Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers (CARSPO 2026) in Imo State from September 21 to 24, 2026, bringing together top security officials, policymakers, election stakeholders, and experts to strengthen strategies for effective election security management ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The conference, themed “Developing a Police Roadmap for Effective Management of Security During Elections,” is expected to serve as a critical platform for reviewing existing security frameworks, identifying emerging threats, and formulating actionable strategies to guarantee peaceful, credible, and violence-free elections across the country.
CARSPO 2026 is being co-organised by the Nigeria Police Force in partnership with Lenders Consult International, a long-standing strategic partner of the Force. Since 2019, the consultancy firm has collaborated with police authorities in securing sponsorships and providing high-level operational support and innovative solutions aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Nigeria’s foremost internal security agency.
According to organisers, the four-day conference will focus on developing a comprehensive national security roadmap for the 2027 general elections, with discussions expected to address issues such as election-related violence, intelligence gathering, inter-agency collaboration, deployment strategies, technological innovations in election policing, and public trust in the electoral process.
Senior police officers from across the federation, representatives of relevant government agencies, civil society organisations, election management bodies, development partners, and security experts are expected to participate in the conference and contribute to the formulation of practical recommendations for election security operations.
Speaking ahead of the event, stakeholders emphasized the need for proactive planning and capacity building as the nation gradually prepares for another electoral cycle. They noted that the increasing complexity of election security demands a coordinated approach involving all relevant actors to safeguard democratic processes and protect citizens’ rights.
Lenders Consult International reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing operational readiness and addressing potential security challenges that may arise before, during, and after the 2027 elections.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, is expected to lead discussions at the conference and provide strategic direction on the Force’s preparations for future electoral engagements.
Highlighting the central role of the police in democratic governance, IGP Disu stressed that the success and stability of elections largely depend on effective policing and security management.
“Stability of the electoral process largely depends on the Police as the lead agency in internal democracy,” the IGP stated, underscoring the critical responsibility of the Force in ensuring that elections are conducted in a secure and peaceful environment.
Observers believe that the outcomes of CARSPO 2026 will play a significant role in shaping the Nigeria Police Force’s election security architecture and operational strategies ahead of the 2027 general elections, reinforcing public confidence in the nation’s democratic process.
