CARETAKER COMMITTEE: HAKEEM BAMGBOLA URGES APC TO TREAD CAUTIOUSLY

The national body of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been urged to tread cautiously as it concerns the political development of the party, especially with the current constitution of the National Caretaker Committee. The note of caution was given by a Commissioner at the Lagos State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Hon. Hakeem Bamgbola who also doubles as the APC Vice Chairman in Lagos State. The call is coming on the heels of the narrow escape judgment of the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN at the Supreme Court yesterday.
Hon. Hakeem Bamgbola made this call to all faithful members of the party. He noted: ‘The narrow escape of the Supreme Court judgment in favour of Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu ought to be a source of concern for us all. The elders have foreseen that this can come up.
Baba Bisi Akande has been warning that this caretaker thing is an aberration. The caretaker committee is staying too long on the position. The party needs to be careful so that we don’t run into a legal tussle.’
‘Remember the case of Zamfara state. This should be a source of concern for us, all. We don’t want to run afoul of the law. We should be careful of technicalities of the law which the opposition may want to capitalize on due to the long stay of the caretaker committee’, he warned.
It would be recalled that the former Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Bisi Akande had said about the Caretaker Committee, ‘in normal circumstances, a Caretaker Executive Committee for a political party is an abnormality. If not carefully controlled and expeditiously managed, most aberrant authorities end up in contempt and disgrace.’
The elder statesman, Bisi Akande then urged that the present committee led by Gov. Mai Mala Buni should resist all temptations to sit tight in the position. The Caretaker Committee has been at the helms of the Nigeria’s governing party since June 2020.
