BEAUTY IN CRACKS
by Mosunmola Akande
A cracked egg
On a faithful day, I decided to prepare concoction rice to eat; so I poured every of the ingredients I wanted in the boiling water.
I wanted a boiled egg too. Instead of boiling it separately, I rinsed it and dropped it in the boiling water mixed with the ingredients. On dropping it, I heard a sound that indicated that the egg had broken but I left it with the thought that the worse will be for it to spread in the water and I will be ok with that.
I poured the rice in the boiling concoction water and left it to cook.
After awhile, I went to check my concoction rice and was delighted to meet my egg intact (I was DECEIVED by the shell NOT BROKEN). Food is ready; I served myself and was shocked after I peeled off the shell of the egg. The picture above was my boiled egg. It looks amazing and I couldn’t help but gazed at it. My sister jokingly asked me to take it to the museum but I told her the exhibition will be done in my stomach. I splitted the egg into two parts and to my surprise, the yoke was INTACT.
A crack in the egg shell gave me a beautiful boiled egg with an unaffected inner part.
Many of us are like this egg, for we are not easily broken but the choices we’ve made left cracks on us that makes life seems difficult for us and those around us can never understand because they are deceived by the mask we put on; mask that hides the pains we are going through. Some people look at us and judge us because they have no idea about the battles we fight daily to be a better version of us. The courage it takes for us to stand and refuse to be shaken, the strength it takes to put on a smile and say ‘I am fine’. God’s grace is indeed sufficient.
Our beauty can be seen as a result of the cracks (FAULTS) on us that gave an opening for the concoction water (CHALLENGES) to come in, but yet, the albumen (GRACE) protected the yoke (INNER SELF) from the water (STORM).
