Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation

– Nigeria’s minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, was recently attacked in Spain

– The Nigerian government has come to condemn the attack in its entirety

– Abike Dabiri-Erewa appealed to Nigerians to stop tarnishing the image of the country The attack on Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation, in Spain, has been condemned by the Nigerian government. Reacting to the incident, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, said there will be consequences for such uncouth and unruly behaviour. She appealed to Nigerians to always be of good behaviour wherever they may be as any negative action will dent the country’s image.

According to her, the case is now being handled by the Nigerian mission and the Spanish Police.

Amaechi was in Madrid for a climate change event when he came under attack by some Nigerians living in the country. He revealed the incident via Twitter on Friday, December 6. He said he was attacked by a “few misguided Nigerians” but they were repelled by the Spanish Police which reacted promptly, preventing any harm. This is not the first time a Nigerian politician will be attacked by its citizens living abroad. In August, the former deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, was attacked by a mob while attending a cultural event in the European country of Germany. A video which went viral on Saturday, August 17, showed Ekweremadu being dragged roughly and stoned with different objects by the irate mob. The video also showed him running away from the mob.
