…GESTURE WILL MOTIVATE STUDENTS, RELIEVE STRESS OF PARENTS

‘When you build the youth, you build the nation’, were the words of Alhaja Dr. Funmilayo Akande-Muhammed as she led the Apapa-Iganmu LCDA to distribute a whopping 10,000 school bags to school children in all primary and secondary schools within the council.

The council boss: ‘This gesture will transform lives, encourage people to appreciate government, and relieve some parents the burden of buying new school bags. As a Chairman, we have to touch all areas – education, health, infrastructure, and so on. I have passion for education so I deem it fit to relieve the stress of some parents by this gesture.’

Also speaking at the distribution exercise, Hon. Akeem Balogun, Vice Chairman cum Supervisor of Education, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA said: ‘The drive behind giving the school bags is nothing short of the fact that most students go to schools with polythene bags, some don’t even have anything to carry their books which makes the books get tattered. The Chairman thought it wise that the school bags could be a way of supporting the parents. It is also a motivation for the students to put more interest in their studies.’

The Leader of the House, Apapa-Iganmu LCDA, Hon. Mrs. Funmilayo Olanihun shared: ‘Our Chairman believes that education is the best legacy you can give to a child. And you can see the children that they are very happy for this gesture. She wishes that this program continues, and we all at the House will give her the support.’

The Secretary of the LCDA, Hon. Wasiu Yusuf said: ‘One of the priority areas of this administration since inception is education. Last week, 100 JAMB forms were given to some students, the Spelling Bee competition was also held, and here we are today, distributing 10,000 school bags. These bags will serve as encouragement for the children. We will still do more.’

Two pupils of David Savage Memorial Nursery and Primary School, Udoka Favour and Ayinde Aminat who were part of the beneficiaries showered words of appreciation to the Executive Chairman of the council and promised to make the best use of the opportunity by giving more attention to their studies.
