American Rapper DDG Says, Nigeria Is Safer Than the United States…

American rapper and online streamer Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., popularly known as DDG, has said Nigeria is not as dangerous as the United States, contrary to widely held perceptions about the country.

The rapper made the remarks during a visit to Lagos in a video shared on X on Thursday by entertainment platform CutnPaid. In the clip, DDG challenged long-standing narratives portraying Nigeria as highly unsafe.

“I think America is the most dangerous country there is, to be honest,” DDG said. “I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America — nowhere near.”

Comparing crime patterns in both countries, the rapper pointed to the prevalence of gun and gang-related violence in the United States, which he said differs significantly from his experience in Nigeria.

“You get robbed out here for sure, but people aren’t getting shot like that — the way it happens in America,” he added.
DDG also encouraged foreigners who may be hesitant about visiting Nigeria due to negative stereotypes to reconsider their views.

“So if anybody is thinking about coming out here, just pull, bro,” he said.
The comments come nearly a year after the rapper publicly expressed dissatisfaction with life in the United States. In a post shared on his verified X account at the time, DDG suggested he was considering relocating abroad.
“America lowkey not it no more ngl,” he wrote. “Might have to move to London or Lagos.”

DDG’s remarks have since sparked conversations online about safety perceptions, gun violence, and the image of Nigeria among international visitors.
