Aisha Binani Dumps APC, Defects to ADC in Adamawa…

In a dramatic political shift that has sent ripples through Nigeria’s northern power corridors, former All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Aisha Binani, has officially dumped the ruling party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC). According to IREPORTER ONLINE, the move comes at a critical time when political realignments are intensifying ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Binani, who contested and narrowly lost the 2023 gubernatorial election to incumbent Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is widely recognized as a strong political force in Adamawa. Fintiri polled 430,861 votes to Binani’s 398,738, in an election that kept the nation on edge. Her defection to ADC is already being interpreted as a strategic repositioning, especially with growing talks of a broader opposition coalition.

A former senator who represented Adamawa Central from 2019 to 2023 and a former House of Representatives member for Yola North/Yola South/Girei, Binani boasts considerable political experience and grassroots reach. Her husband, Professor Ahmed Modibbo, is also a high-profile figure in Yola, reputed as one of the wealthiest individuals in Adamawa State. According to IREPORTER ONLINE, Binani’s new political direction may strengthen the influence of the ADC in the North-East and beyond.

Her exit from the APC follows closely on the heels of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s resignation from the PDP. While Atiku has yet to announce his next political affiliation formally, insiders suggest he may align with Binani under the newly forming opposition coalition led by the ADC. The realignment is widely seen as a rebuke of the current APC-led government and a consolidation of Northern political interests.

Binani is also believed to be gaining support from Atiku Abubakar, who, according to IREPORTER ONLINE, has recently fallen out with his protégé, Governor Fintiri. Their strained relationship is speculated to have played a role in the rising momentum behind Binani’s shift. The growing rift signals deeper political fault lines within the North-East and the potential collapse of once-strong alliances ahead of 2027.

As the ADC positions itself as a formidable alternative to Nigeria’s dominant parties, the entry of a figure like Binani is expected to reshape the electoral dynamics in Adamawa and influence national strategy. Her defection underscores the volatility in Nigeria’s political terrain and foreshadows more high-profile exits in the months to come.
