L-R: late Barr. Mohammed Fawehinmi and Mr. Abdulmumuni Abiola

It is been a day of mourning throughout Nigeria as the news of the shock exit of Barr. Mohammed Fawehinmi streamed into the media yesterday. The son of Nigeria’s icon of democracy, Chief MKO Abiola, Abdulmumuni Abiola has also lamented the sudden demise of Mohammed Fawehinmi, the son of Chief Gani Fawehinmi who has been at the saddle of Gani Fawehinmi Chambers for a long while.

Expressing his shock to Oki Samson of Trek Africa Newspaper, the young Abiola grieved: ‘I am so sad that we have lost a strong voice for true democracy. I am going to miss him. He is a mentor. May Allah bless him and welcome him to Aljannah.’
‘He took exactly after his father’s footstep. The painful part is that his mother is still alive. Very painful’, Abiola regretted.

Mohammed Fawehinmi has declared dead after a brief illness at the age of 52 yesterday Wednesday 11th August, 2021. He was said to have complained of difficulty in breathing before he was taken to the hospital where he passed. He held sway of Gani Fawehinmi Chambers since the passing of his father, Nigeria’s foremost fearless human rights lawyer and social crusader, Chief Gani Fawehinmi GCON.

Both Chief MKO Abiola and Chief Gani Fawehinmi were esteemed as heroes of June 12 by President Muhammadu Buhari with posthumous national honours of GCFR and GCON respectively in 2018.
