In line with his efforts at raising awareness about the sickle cell disorder, Oyelami Abayomi Samson, a participant at the ongoing YALI RLC WEST AFRICA ONLINE COHORT 6 programme recently completed his community service project in the famous city of Ajegunle Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria.
This was made possible by the support of a Lagos-based registered health NGO, Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative (SAMI) under the leadership of Toyin Adesola, a great woman who has also lived with the condition for 53 years.
At the event, the students learnt about the causes and management of sickle cell, YALI activities, inappropriate drug use, and leadership.
The elated students promised to take the information to their school and communities and urged the NGO to quickly actualise its plan of starting health clubs in their schools.
