In 2020 alone, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that there were over 241 million cases of malaria recorded worldwide. Perhaps, Africa accounts for a great percentage of this number. This underscores the commitment that must be attached to this endemic disease.
This is why the Editor of Trek Africa Newspaper, Abayomi Oyelami is urging every Nigerian and Agege residents in particular to pay attention to their environment as a means of reducing the disease burden. Oyelami said: ‘Though, the Director-General of World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Ghebreyesus announced the breakthrough of a malaria vaccine in 2021, it is imperative to note that there is still a long way to go in making it available for Africa’s children. Thus, the people of Agege and Nigeria at large need to place a premium on keeping our environment clean especially as we have entered the rainy season.’
The nonprofit leader had earlier tweeted in his celebration of World Malaria Day today, ”241million plus, @WHO estimated in 2020, #Malaria is not smiling. This #WorldMalariaDay2022 and moving forward, let’s ‘Harness Innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives. #FightForWhatCounts #EndMalaria
