The AIG sir, Senior Police Officers from Zone 1 Kano, Officers and Men of Kano Police Command, Good Morning.
It is with great honour and privilege that I welcome the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 1 Kano, AIG Ari Muhammed Ali, FCIA, psc+, PhD to the Bompai Police Headquarters here in Kano. This visit marks a significant moment as we have the opportunity to host a distinguished guest who holds a wealth of experience and knowledge in policing.

I extend my warm greetings and gratitude to the AIG Zone One Kano and his team for gracing us with their presence. We are eagerly looking forward to the insightful lecture that will be delivered to our officers and men. Such sessions are invaluable as they provide us with the opportunity to enhance our skills, stay updated with the latest policing techniques, and strengthen our commitment to serving and protecting the people of Kano State.

The AIG sir, Kano State is a cosmopolitan city and a centre of commerce with a population of at least twenty million (20,000,000) people. The State borders Kaduna from the west, Katsina from the North, Jigawa from the East and Bauchi from the South.

Kano State Police Command was created in 1967 and currently with seventy-eight (78) Police Divisions, eleven (11) Area Commands, and two (2) Police Mobile Squadrons (9 & 52) at Hotoro and Challawa respectively.

I assumed duty on 24th June, 2024 as the 46th Commissioner of Police in the State. On arrival, I met a lot of security challenges, especially the resurgence of thuggery activities resulting to killings, causing grievous hurts and Mobile Phone Armed Robbery that were rampant within the State Metropolis. Also the Emirate tussle in the state is of great concern due to its security implications. Also the management of the violent nationwide protest and other criminal activities that have posed threats to public safety and socioeconomic development in the State.

In line with the directives and guidance of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, having carefully studied the crime pattern, robust policing strategies were emplaced that centered around robust community policing engagements, synergy with other security agencies and community stakeholders, use of technology in Investigation and operation, intelligence led policing, professionalism and accountability, strategic communication in public enlightenment and sensitization, and also targeted clearance operations.

Within ten days of my stay in Kano, the issue of thuggery (Daba) was curtailed, motor vehicle theft syndicates were dismantled, pockets of kidnapping incidents at borders Local Government Areas were decimated and all forms of crimes were reduced drastically. From 24th June 2024 to date, that is for 85 days, a total of one thousand one hundred and sixty-four (1,164) suspects were prosecuted with the breakdown of the successes as follows:

Arrests:
i. Forty-one (41) suspected armed robbers
ii. Five (5) suspected kidnappers
iii. Thirteen (13) suspected thieves
iv. Ten (10) suspected drug dealers
v. Seven (7) suspected fraudsters
vi. Fourteen (14) motorcycle thieves
vii. One hundred and fifty-three (153) suspected thugs.
viii. Twenty-six (26) mobile phone snatchers/armed robbers
ix. Eleven (11) motor vehicle thieves
x. Two (2) human trafficking suspects
xi. Eight hundred and eighty-two (882) suspects during 1st to 10th August nationwide protest.

Rescue:
i. Five (5) kidnapping victims
ii. Thirteen (13) trafficking victims

Recoveries:
i. Two (2) AK-47 rifle, One Barretta pistol and One (1) locally-made gun
ii. Forty-seven (47) live ammunitions
iii. Fifteen (15) motor vehicles
iv. Seventeen (17) solar batteries
v. Seventy-one (71) sharp knives and cutlasses
vi. Four (4) Sacks, Two hundred and ninety-eight (298) pieces of Exol tablets
vii. Twelve (12) sachets of tramadol tablets
viii. Twenty-eight (28) sachets of diazepam tablets and six (6) pieces of D5 hard drugs
ix. One hundred and thirty-two (132) parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp
x. Twenty-five cows, fifteen (15) sheep and four (4) donkeys
xi. Twenty (20) ATM cards
xii. Two hundred and forty-one thousand naira (₦241,000.00) suspected to be counterfeit currency
xiii. Thirty-one million, one hundred and forty-two thousand naira (31,142,000:00)
xiv. One hundred and twenty-six (126) mobile phones.

We recognize the fact that where there are achievements there are also challenges. Some of the challenges faced by the Command include;
i. Lack of adequate patrol vehicles for effective patrol and surveillance
ii. Shortage of Manpower, especially junior officers.

As we come together for this occasion, let us engage wholeheartedly, participate actively, and make the most of this learning opportunity. I encourage each and every one of you to approach this lecture with an open mind, ready to absorb new information and apply it in our daily operations.

To officers and men of the command, l et us make the most of this visit, fostering camaraderie, cooperation, and professional development among our ranks. Together, we can further our mission of ensuring the safety and security of the citizens of Kano State.

Once again, I extend my heartfelt welcome to the AIG Zone one and all attendees. Thank you for being a part of this enriching experience. Let us make this visit a memorable and fruitful one for all.

Thank you and welcome to Kano State our AIG, sir.

The familiarization tour and lecture underscore the AIG’s dedication to guiding and supporting the Kano and Jigawa State Commands in achieving their mandates.
