Wike: I Stand By Tinubu, He Is My Political Father – Rivers Crisis Deepens

On Friday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, expressed his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Tinubu, citing his belief in Tinubu’s leadership abilities and noting that he views the president as a father figure due to their age difference.

Wike made this statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he addressed the ongoing political rift between him and Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State.

According to Wike, Fubara has been disrespectful, using Tinubu’s intervention in their political disagreements as an opportunity to insult others. “The governor took advantage of the presidential intervention to insult everybody. As an appointee of Mr. President, I have no hidden agenda; I supported him because I believe in his capacity,” Wike said.

Wike further explained that when Tinubu asked for his assistance, he accepted certain responsibilities despite initial hesitations. “He’s the president of the country and, by age, he is like a father to us. He appointed me, and I owe him my loyalty.”

However, Wike accused Governor Fubara of undermining Tinubu’s efforts by instigating numerous legal challenges after their peace agreement. “The president suggested solutions, but Fubara responded with over 40 lawsuits,” he revealed.

The tension between Wike and Fubara has persisted, despite President Tinubu’s attempts to mediate the situation. Both politicians had earlier agreed to a peace pact facilitated by the president, but the dispute over political and resource control in Rivers State continues to escalate.
