...inaugurates Fact-Finding Committee
As part of his efforts towards intensifying security operations in his area, the Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu is making moves to get over the attacks which was melted out against the Somolu commercial hub last Wednesday.
Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu, while briefing Newsmen immediately after the Council Executives meeting which was chaired by him, said “the Executive members had approved the immediate rebuilding of the two razed police stations in the area”.
The Executive Chairman also name the fact-finding committee who will look at the issue of fire which razed Olaleye and Alade market. He said the Hon. Ademola Olisa led committee is inaugurated to ascertain the losses, types of goods involved, burglary, fire or theft, evidence or witness and suggest palliative measures. Hon. Gbolahan Bagostowe (immediate past Chairman of Somolu LG), Hon. Williams Lawanson (immediate past Sole Administrator of Somolu LG), Hon. Yomi Osunkoya (Leader of Somolu Legislative Council) and Hon. Razak Tajudeen (Secretary of the Committee) are members of the fact-finding committee.
Earlier today, the Committee had visited Alasela Market which was attached from the razed Onipanu Police Station, and Olaleye Market which was engulfed by inferno in May 2020. They urged the victims of the fire incident to provide their details and proof of ownership of the affected shop through the market officer of their market, to the committee.
On rebuilding the razed police stations, according to the Council helmsman, the Alade Police Station will be his first point of call due its large jurisdictional coverage as well as the the importance of the police station to the community. He further said the rebuilding of Onipanu Police Station would follow immediately as the issue of security should not be treated with levity.
However, Hon. Abdul Hamed Salawu said security and crime reports should not wait for the building of the police stations to be completed, “while we are waiting to start the rebuilding of the police stations, all security and criminal cases should be reported to Pedro Police Station for further action”, the Chairman said.
However, he said “despite the fact that the markets which were also razed by arsonists is also important too but the rebuilding of the police stations can’t wait as the protection of lives and properties is very germane, especially when one have to consider the business population of Somolu”.
He assured the traders of Alade Market that the directive from the State Government is what he’s waiting for as the issue of Olaleye Market which was engulfed by inferno five months ago is also awaiting next step of action to be taken.
