Eid-il-fitr: Hamzat counsels religious fanatics against violence in the name of Islam

L-R: Chairman, APC Lagos State, Mr Tunde Balogun; Sen Musiliu Obanikoro; Deputy Governor, Lagos State, Dr. Femi Hamzat and Oba of Lagos, Oba Akiolu Rilwan.

agos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat has appealed to those spreading violence in the name of Islam, to desist from such acts as the religion only preaches peace and love.

Dr. Hamzat made the remarks on Tuesday during the eid prayer at the Dodan Barracks, Obalende, Lagos.

He said: “We must use the Eid-il-fitri to renew our lives and live in peaceful way and realize that whatever we do has impact on others within the society. For instance, as residents of Lagos, we must not dispose waste indiscriminately because it will affect someone else’s health. So we must be considerate with other residents of the state.

“When you consider others in whatever act you engage in, it is believed that you have empathy for others.” he added.

The deputy governor was joined by other dignitaries at the prayer which signifies the end of the mandatory 30-day fast for Muslims.

Dignitaries at the prayer included the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu; former Nigerian Ambassador to Ghana, Musiliu Obanikoro; Commissioner of Police, Zubair Muazu; former Federal Commissioner for Works, Alh. Femi Okunnu, and others.
