50 Trainees On Entrepreneurship And ICT Receives Certificates, Starter Packs From Gov. Diri

Governor Douye Diri has presented certificates and brand new laptop computers as starter packs to each of the 50 youths of the State that participated in the Diri Digital entrepreneurship empowerment Programme.

The certificates, and laptops computers were presented to the participants at the passing out ceremony at Harold Dappa Biriye conference Hall, Golden Tulip Resort, Onopa in Yenagoa.

Governor Diri, said the starter packs will go a long way to assist the successful participants set up their own small and medium scale enterprises and subsequently become employers of labour, which was the objective of the scheme.

He emphasized that the training has equipped the participants with the needed technical knowledge to take advantage of opportunities available in entrepreneurship and the global digital space.

He said “We are carrying out ICT training for youths, women, physically challenged and public servant periodically as a strategy of this government. We will continue to encourage them to explore the possibility to use technology to innovate, build businesses and creatively solve social problems.We don’t expect you to go into businesses that our father and mothers were doing in the same way and expect a different result, I hereby announce the commencement of the second batch of 150 youths”

“There’s something important about today, COVID 19 has made it possible for those who were analog to begin to think digitally, it came to a point where it was difficult for people to travel, for students to learn except you are digital, and we all know the world is moving very fast to ICT.”

In his welcome remarks, the Commissioner of communication, Science and technology, Dr.Ekio Promise expressed gratitude to the Governor for making huge investment through training in various skills acquisition programmes to make the people, especially youths, become productive and useful citizens.

He stated that, plans are ongoing to organize a Science, Technology and Mathematics (Stem) Expo for Young innovators to compete, thereby providing ICT and technology solutions to solve basic programmes.

He maintained that, Winners of the Competition will be rewarded and their innovative products and ideas will further inculcate to enter relevant
industry Market in no distant time.

“Let me seize the opportunity to thank
his Excellency for his resolve to complete all uncompleted projects started by the previous administration Including the centre of Excellence and innovation.

“The centre of Excellence and innovation when completed will have a state of the heart smart ICT to serve as a rallying point for all tech exercises and those desiring training in ICT. It is our fervent hope that this project will be part of the
projects to be commissioned during
his excellency third year anniversary.

“As part of the Ministry plan, to Increase awareness in STEM, that is science, technology, engineering and Mathematics and ICT. The Ministry will soon organized a Stem expo for our Young innovators to compete thereby providing ICT and technology Solutions to solve basic programmes.

“The ministry is also grateful to

encouragement to Interface with
Some Federal Mdas, Most of these
trips have started yielding benefits,
the National space research and development agency has accepted to collaborate with the State Government for support in space science and others technology advancement Programmes.

“we are also in touch with Nigeria

With our Ministry for lntervention
In training and implementation of
the national broadband plan 2022
and Yenagoa Smart City concept,” he said.

The Commissioner urged the graduands to used the knowledge acquired for meaningful ventures and not to sell their starter packs.

He seized the opportunity and called for Collaboration with other ministries in the State for training of Staffs in ICT for effective service delivery.

Responding on behalf of the trainees, Ogoun by Okoboere Richard, expressed gratitude to government and pledged they will take advantage of the scheme to become great in life.
