The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, Hon. Abdul-Ganiyu Vinod Obasa, has held a strategic review meeting with officials of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) to assess the progress of ongoing beautification projects across the Council area.

The engagement, which took place on yesterday, provided an opportunity for both parties to evaluate the level of work already carried out under their partnership and to identify additional steps required to further enhance the transformation of public spaces in Agege.

The beautification initiative, implemented through collaboration between the local government and LASPARK, has already witnessed the development of landscaped gardens, ornamental plantings and green corridors along major roads and public locations within the community.

Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa noted that the meeting was aimed at reviewing the impact of the projects so far and strengthening strategies that would ensure the sustainability of the environmental improvements.

According to him, the beautification programme forms a key component of his administrationโ€™s broader environmental and infrastructure agenda aimed at creating a cleaner, greener and more organised Agege.

โ€œOur engagement with LASPARK was essentially to review the progress we have made together so far and to determine what more needs to be done to sustain and expand the beautification of our public spaces,โ€ Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa said.

He explained that the landscaping projects have already begun to transform the physical outlook of Agege through the development of gardens and the introduction of ornamental plants across strategic corridors.

โ€œThese initiatives are designed not only to beautify the environment but also to improve air quality and create more welcoming spaces for residents and visitors. A beautiful environment contributes significantly to the overall well-being of the people,โ€ he said.

Abdul-Ganiyu Obasa further noted that the environmental transformation aligns with the councilโ€™s wider development vision, which includes road rehabilitation, improved waste management systems and enhanced street lighting under the Operation No Black Spot initiative.

โ€œAll these interventions are interconnected. From lighting up dark spots to improving road infrastructure and environmental sanitation, we are working towards a holistic transformation that will redefine how people experience and perceive Agege,โ€ he added.

The Chairman emphasised that the collaboration with LASPARK reflects the local governmentโ€™s commitment to sustainable urban development and responsible environmental management.

Officials of Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency commended the Agege Local Government for its proactive support toward environmental renewal projects, noting that the partnership has helped accelerate the development of green infrastructure within the Council area.

Urban development observers say such collaborations between local governments and environmental agencies are essential to building healthier and more sustainable communities.

Residents in the area have also expressed satisfaction with the ongoing transformation, noting that the landscaped gardens and improved green spaces are gradually redefining the visual appeal of Agege.

With the ongoing review and renewed commitment from both parties, stakeholders say the beautification projects are expected to expand further, reinforcing Agegeโ€™s emergence as a cleaner, greener and more aesthetically appealing urban community.
