Mile 2 Chaos: Lagos Govt Vows Justice for Assaulted VIO Officials…

There was pandemonium at Mile 2 in Lagos when a group of irate individuals unleashed violence on Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) carrying out their lawful duties. The shocking attack, which has stirred outrage across the state, has been described as an assault not just on men in uniform but on the very authority of government.

The Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, visibly angered by the development, said the assault was grievous, unprovoked, and a dangerous affront to law and order.

In a strongly worded statement, the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, vowed that the perpetrators would be hunted down and brought before the law without delay.

“This appalling and utterly reprehensible act is a direct affront not only to the officers involved but also to the authority and dignity of the Lagos State Government. It will never go unpunished,” Osiyemi declared.

Eyewitnesses said the officers were conducting routine checks when they were suddenly set upon by hoodlums who beat them viciously, leaving them with injuries. Shockwaves rippled through the busy Mile 2 axis as commuters watched in disbelief.

For the state government, however, this was more than an ordinary scuffle. Officials insist it was a reckless attempt to undermine road safety enforcement and erode respect for law.

“VIO officials are not mere traffic men. They are agents of the law, entrusted with the responsibility of safeguarding lives on our highways. To attack them is to desecrate the very institutions set up to protect society,” the Ministry noted.

The government has since vowed to deploy every available means to track down those behind the chaos. “They will be relentlessly pursued, apprehended, and subjected to the full sanctions of the law,” Osiyemi assured.

Meanwhile, relief came when reports confirmed that the injured officers were responding to treatment. Doctors say they are in stable condition, though visibly traumatized by the ordeal.

Still, the Ministry insists their recovery does not soften the gravity of the crime or diminish the state’s determination to send a strong message to would-be offenders.

“We stand in unwavering solidarity with the injured officers and reassure all our personnel of absolute commitment to their safety and dignity,” Osiyemi said, noting that the state values the sacrifices made daily by enforcement officers.

The government also warned that no criminal elements would be allowed to intimidate or obstruct the lawful work of the Lagos State Government. “Lagos will never bow to lawlessness,” the statement emphasized.

The incident has once again brought to the fore the dangers faced by enforcement officers in the line of duty. Many have called for stronger legal protection and better security measures for VIOs and other transport officials.

As Mile 2 slowly returns to its bustling rhythm, the scars of the attack remain—a reminder of how fragile public order can be when law officers become targets of mob anger.
