LASCOPA HOLDS STAFF RETREAT, PROMISES CONTINUOUS CAPACITY BUILDING

In a strategic move to strengthen workforce performance and enhance service delivery, the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has organised a staff retreat for its officers at Shoregate Hotels, Ikeja GRA.

The retreat, themed “Elevating the Standard: A Commitment to Consumer Rights and Advocacy,” was designed to build staff capacity, promote innovation, and align officers with the THEMES+ Agenda of the Lagos State Government.

Speaking at the opening session, the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of LASCOPA, Afolabi Solebo, Esq., stated that the retreat was aimed at bringing all members of staff together to relearn, refocus, and adopt more innovative approaches in the discharge of their duties.

He noted that the training went beyond improving workplace efficiency, as it also added value to participants’ personal development and overall well-being.

The GM/CEO encouraged participants to maintain an open and receptive mindset to fully benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experiences being shared, expressing confidence that the retreat would yield positive and lasting outcomes for the Agency.

The Lead Facilitator, Mr. Femi Sholaja, delivered a session titled “From Awareness to Action: Strengthening Consumer Rights in a Rapidly Changing Marketplace.” He emphasised the roles of key stakeholders, identified emerging marketplace challenges, discussed consumer rights, market fairness, and highlighted the importance of speaking out against unfair practices. He also addressed common consumer rights violations and the need for proactive enforcement and advocacy.

The second facilitator, Mr. Babasola Akeem Olaegbe, presented a session on “Understanding the Public Service Rules for Effective Human Resources Management,” offering participants practical insights into compliance, discipline, and professionalism within the public service.

In the same vein, Mr. Lanre Sobona delivered a presentation on consumer advocacy as a tool for accountability and ethical business practices, underscoring the critical role of consumer protection in promoting fairness, transparency, and trust in the marketplace.

Each session featured interactive question-and-answer segments, allowing participants to engage directly with the facilitators and deepen their understanding of the topics discussed.

Speaking on behalf of participants, the Head of Administration and Human Resources Department, Mrs. Oluwakemi Peters, expressed appreciation to the Agency’s management for organising what she described as a timely and impactful retreat. She assured that the knowledge and skills acquired would be effectively applied to improve service delivery and advance the Agency’s mandate.
