Internal Crises: Ogun State Former Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Adekunle Akinlade Dumps PDP…

A former Governorship candidate in the 2019 general election and the 2023 Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) in Ogun States’ Deputy Governorship Candidate, Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, a prominent has today Monday 26th May, 2025 officially resigned from the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) with immediate effect over persistent internal crises and alleged institutional bias within the party in Ogun State.

In his official resignation letter personally e-signed and made available to Trek Africa Newspaper on Monday, May 26, 2025, Akinlade, who was the 2023 PDP former Director General of the Atiku/Okowa Presidential Campaign Council in Ogun State, cited alleged persistent marginalization, institutional bias, and a breakdown of democratic processes within the PDP at both state and national levels as key reasons for his exit.

According to Akinlade, “This decision was not taken lightly,” Akinlade stated. “It follows persistent and unresolved internal crises within the Ogun State chapter of the PDP, which have regrettably undermined our collective aspirations for a more inclusive, democratic, and forward-looking party.”

He specifically accused the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) of aligning with a faction in Ogun State, rather than acting as a neutral arbiter. According to him, the NWC’s endorsement of a parallel party register during the 2024 Local Government and State Congresses flagrantly violated the PDP constitution and disenfranchised over 49,000 registered members under his bloc.

Akinlade emphasized that his group had complied fully with party procedures during the registration and congress processes, only to have their efforts nullified by what he called deliberate obstruction and bad faith. The resultant chaos, he said, led to parallel congresses in all 236 Wards and 20 Local Government Areas of the state, culminating in prolonged legal battles that are now before the Court of Appeal.

He further criticized the outcome of the recent PDP South West Zonal Congress, saying the party leadership once again squandered a critical opportunity for reconciliation by excluding his political bloc from meaningful participation.

“The current turmoil within the national structure of the PDP, coupled with growing defections across the federation, raises valid concerns about the future and direction of the party,” he noted.

Hon. Akinlade, a former member of the House of Representatives (2015–2019) and the 2019 Governorship Candidate in Ogun State, said he could no longer remain in a party whose internal mechanisms are plagued by selective justice and systemic dysfunction.

While he has not disclosed his next political destination, Akinlade assured supporters that consultations are ongoing and a formal announcement regarding his future political direction will be made in due course.

He concluded his statement by expressing profound appreciation to members of the Triple A Political Family and supporters across Ogun State for their resilience, loyalty, and shared commitment to a better future for the state and Nigeria.
