Police Arrests 9 Suspects Over Killing Of Anambra Lawmaker, Hon. Justice Azuka

Anambra Police Arrests Ugochukwu Onuorah, Ikemefuna Ossai, Ikenna Orugu, Chibuike Obiefuna, Chinonso Olisa, Chinedu Okoli, David Ojini and Peter Sunday over killing of Hon. Justice Azuka.

 

The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of nine suspects allegedly involved in the gruesome murder of Hon Justice Azuka, the member representing Onitsha North Constituency 1 in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

 

Azuka was abducted on December 24, 2024, in Onitsha but his decomposing body was found in the early hours of Thursday February 6, 2025 at the 2nd Niger Bridge by a joint security team comprising the police and operatives of the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG).

 

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, Nnaghe Itam, who disclosed the arrest of the suspects in a press statement issued on Friday, said the joint security team on a mission to rescue the abducted lawmaker found Azuka’s lifeless body.

 

Itam said on the same day his corpse was found, the command’s men in a joint operation with Anambra State Vigilante operatives acting on intelligence-led information arrested nine suspects allegedly actively involved in the incident.

Two pump action guns were recovered from the suspects, according to Itam.

 

He added that one of the suspects sustained an injury in the leg during a gun duel with the police operatives.

 

“One of the suspects sustained a gunshot injury in his leg during a gun duel with the Police operatives,” the CP said.

The arrested suspects are: Ugochukwu Onuorah (30), Ikemefuna Ossai (20), Ikenna Orugu (27), Chibuike Obiefuna (19), Chinonso Olisa (19) Chinedu Okoli (21), David Ojini (25) and Peter Sunday (20) who was said to a big tattoo inscription of ‘No peace 4 d Government’ on his chest.

 

The police commissioner also said that operatives of the Command also arrested one Chidiebere Nwosu, a kidnap suspect in Uruagu, Nnewi area of the state and killed some of his gang members that were involved in the attack of police personnel attached to the Rapid Response Squad after an arrest on October 3, 2024.

 

He added, “We have also neutralised more than 100 notorious criminals and successfully destroyed many criminal camps in Ufuma, Eziowelle, Achalla, Ogbaru and many other places in the state.”
