Capacity Edo Governor Okpebholo Dissolves Ambrose Alli University Governing Council, Sacks Management of State Hospitals

In a sweeping administrative shake-up, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has ordered the dissolution of the Governing Councils of all state-owned tertiary institutions, including Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
In a related move, the governor also disengaged the management staff of Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City, with immediate effect.
Both directives were conveyed in a “Government Special Announcement” dated November 20, 2024, and signed by Umar Musa Ikhilor, Esq., Secretary to the State Government.
The announcement reads:
“It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the dissolution of the Governing Councils of all State-owned Tertiary Institutions in Edo State with immediate effect. Accordingly, all affected members are to hand over all Government properties in their possession to their respective Heads of the Institutions.”
Regarding the hospitals, the statement added:
“The Governor has also approved the disengagement of the Management Staff of Edo Specialist Hospital and Stella Obasanjo Hospital, Benin City, with immediate effect. All affected personnel are to hand over all Government properties in their possession to the most senior officer in their respective institutions.”
The decision, which reflects Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to reforming key sectors of the state, was disclosed in a statement signed by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor.
This development underscores the administration’s resolve to restructure governance in the state’s tertiary education and healthcare sectors.
