Senate Summons Minister of Works, Umahi Over Worsening Oyo-Ogbomosho Road
By Trek Africa Newspaper

The Senate has summoned the Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, to address the deteriorating condition of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road.
Trek Africa Newspaper reports that the decision was made on Wednesday, October 2, following a motion of urgent public importance raised by Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo North).
Senator Abdulfatai stressed the road’s critical importance as a major link between the South and North of Nigeria, highlighting the severe hardship caused by its poor state.
He noted that travelers regularly face accidents and are often stranded due to the road’s disrepair.
Despite federal government repair efforts that began over a decade ago, the road remains in a dire condition, leading to frequent traffic jams and posing significant risks to commuters, especially those in large vehicles.
The Senate has instructed Umahi to appear before the Committee on Works to explain why significant portions of the road remain neglected, despite the contract for its rehabilitation being awarded years ago.
The motion received unanimous support, with Senate President Godswill Akpabio directing the Committee on Works to provide a report within three weeks.
