The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has launched an immediate investigation into bribery allegations made by controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
Bobrisky, an ex-convict, claimed in a video shared by blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, that some unnamed EFCC officers extorted ₦15 million from him to drop money laundering charges.
In a statement released on Tuesday, EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale confirmed that the commission’s chairman has assembled a team of investigators to thoroughly examine the allegations
“To this end, the Commission hereby invites both Okuneye and Otse (VeryDarkMan) to make themselves available at its Lagos Directorate to assist investigators unearth the alleged bribery,” he said.
The EFCC has assured the public that the bribery allegations will be thoroughly investigated, and the findings will be made public in due course.
In April, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months in prison without the option of a fine for defacing the Nigerian currency, the naira.
