The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of a “fake journalist” who claimed to be an employee of a prominent Nigerian television station during the governorship election in Edo State on Saturday.
In addition to the impostor, police operatives also apprehended two key suspects, Emotingham Godspower (25) and Farawei Isaac (27), both identified as members of the PDP. The suspects are from Ufunama community in Ovia Southwest Local Government Area, Edo State.
This information was shared by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, in a statement.
“The suspects, connected to a larger network involving one “Atiku” and a kingpin known as “the boss”, were apprehended at So Cash guest house in Ekpoma, where a substantial amount of cash and incriminating items were recovered,” the statement said.
The recovered items included a list of voters’ names paired with corresponding monetary amounts, a collection of pre-filled ballot papers, and a set of fake identification cards.
Adejobi also revealed the arrest of six additional suspects—Suleiman Abdurahim, Fatima Yakubu, Yusuf Aminat (52), Salihu Lukman (54), and Safianu Saratu (32)—at Aibotse Secondary School, near Meremu Hotel in Auchi, for involvement in vote buying.
He added that the group was found in possession of a large sum of money, a cache of weapons, and a detailed plan outlining strategies for voter intimidation.
“Our team’s meticulous planning and swift action have dealt a significant blow to those seeking to undermine and discredit the electoral process.
“We remain vigilant and committed to ensuring a free, fair, and peaceful election. Investigations are ongoing, and updates will be provided as events unfold,” the statement added.
