The region is anticipated to be a significant battleground, as candidates from both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) hail from this area.

The rainfall that began in the early hours of Saturday has caused delays in the arrival and distribution of electoral materials across several areas in the Edo Central Senatorial District. This district encompasses five local government areas (LGAs): Esan South-East, Igueben, Esan North-East, Esan West, and Esan Central.

As of 7:50 AM, electoral materials and officials had not yet reached most polling units that were visited. Many residents remained indoors due to the ongoing rain.

At three polling units near the Ogboji area in Irrua and Alli Square in Ekpoma, only a small number of voters were observed waiting for INEC officials. There were no visible signs that the elections were taking place due to the absence of materials and officials.

Voters expressed their anxiety as they awaited the arrival of materials and logistical support. Reports indicated that while some ad hoc officials claimed they had not yet been compensated, others stated they had already received their payments.

A movement restriction order was being strictly enforced, with security operatives ensuring that only residents possessing voter cards were allowed to use the roads leading to their polling units.

As of the time of this report, the heavy rainfall continues.
