Detained Supernumerary Policeman Apologizes to IGP over Political Remarks
By Trek Africa Newspaper

A Supernumerary Chief Superintendent of Police, Blessing Agbomhere, who was detained on Wednesday for making political statements against the PDP’s governorship candidate in Edo State while in uniform, has issued an apology to Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun for his misconduct.
Agbomhere, who also serves as the South-South Zonal Organising Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, apologized for his actions which he claimed were driven by what he perceived as ‘abuse of power and misgovernance’ by the state government and the PDP candidate.
His apology comes just a week before the Edo governorship election on September 21. In a viral video, Agbomhere had accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of financial mismanagement and undermining democracy in Edo State. He also criticized the PDP candidate Asue Ighodalo for not signing a peace accord.
In his statement, Agbomhere expressed regret for using his police uniform in a manner that he acknowledged could be seen as embarrassing to the force. He clarified that the opinions he shared were personal and not representative of the Nigeria Police.
Agbomhere, who is also a lawyer, journalist, and pro-democracy advocate, condemned the state government’s alleged attacks on democratic values and human rights, including the recent murder of a police officer and violence against party members.
He admitted that in the heat of his remarks, he overlooked the fact that he was still wearing his police uniform.
