The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has announced that all Police units and commands across the nation have been placed on red alert following the violent turn the planned nationwide protests took on its first day of action.

The IGP made the declaration Thursday evening while briefing the press on the outcome of the the first day of protest where violence, looting and destruction of public and private infrastructure replaced the planned peaceful protest.

The IGP who wore a red arm band with his management team explained that the Police will not let anything to chance anymore, while advising the protesters to as a matter of urgency, shelve the protest, and give peace a chance.

He lamented that his earlier caution about mischief makers infiltrating and hijacking the protest was later manifested especially in some northern states including Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, Kano, Kaduna, Gombe and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Meanwhile, one of the Conveners of the protest, who operated in Abuja, Deji Adeyanju, has said that so long as the demands of the protest have not been met, the mass action will continue. He blamed the Police for the outbreak of violence.
