IKOSI-ISHERI NULGE PRESENTS EMPOWERMENT TOOLS TO STAFF

Wednesday,9th January, 2019 will be remembered for a long time by the entire staff of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area ,as it was a day the leadership of the council workers union, Nigeria Union Of Local Government Employees(NULGE) rolled out the drums, provided delicious food and drinks for the over 500 pensionable staff to usher in the new year, 2019.

The event which took place at the council secretariat, was well attended by all categories of staff, the political leadership in the council, led by the Executive Chairman, Engr Abdul Fatai Ayodele Oyesanya ,the President of NULGE in Lagos State.

The Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA, Engr Oyesanya in his goodwill address at the colourful occasion, expressed his appreciation to the management and staff for their cooperation and support to his administration since assumption of office in July of 2017.

He added that their support and cooperation had made it possible for him to provide various dividend of democracy to the people. Engr Oyesanya appealed to the staff to continue to support his administration and assured them that all their needs would be attended to based on availability of fund.
He enjoined them to be more dedicated to their duties in the new year.
In her own address, the Council Manager, Mrs Omoloju Comfort congratullated the staff for witnessing the new year and also gave God the glory for his mercy on all members of staff and the political office holders in 2018 and prayed that 2019 would be a better year for them all.
She enjoined the staff to be guided by the civil service rules while discharging their official duties and called on the revenue officers to redouble their efforts in the new fiscal year to surpass any target set for them on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).
The Council Manager assured the staff that the present administration in the council will continue to explore avenues aimed at creating a conducive working environment for them.
The Lagos State NULGE President, Comrade Ajose who was a special guest at the event, commended the Executive Chairman of the council, Engr Oyesanya for his good leadership skill that has brought about socio economic development in the council area.
He specifically praised the chairman for his foresight on the ongoing construction of the multi million naira three storey office complex at the council secretariat. He added that the project is a legacy that will naturally immortalise the chairman after he might have left office.
Comrade Ajose stated that he was impressed with the initiative by the council’s NULGE executives to provide empowerment tools to some staff who are still in active service. He added that the idea is worthy of emulation by other councils in the state.
He also commended Engr Oyesanya for making it possible for the union to achieve the feat.
Earlier in his speech, the Council’s NULGE Chairman, Comrade Bankole Oduguwa expressed gratitude to God, the Council Executive Chairman, Management and Staff for their cooperation and support towards the modest achievements recorded by the union under his leadership in the last three and half years.
He highlighted some of the achievements to include provision of regular financial assistance to staff, medical assistance package, junior staff training, merit and long service awards, payment of festival bonuses ,regular payment of monthly imprest to deserving staff and increased internally generated revenue .
Comrade Bankole appealed to the council chairman and the management team to put more effort to ensure that there is constant power supply at the council secretariat and the three Area offices, provision of modern office equipment, revenue buses,staff and NULGE buses, Establishment of well equipped staff clinic and canteen.
The high point of the ceremony was the presentation of empowerment tools to nine members of staff who are still in active service and also various gifts to some retirees of the council.
The empowerment tools include sewing machines, pop corn machines, grinding machines, fumigation spraying machine and vulcanising machine.
A popular fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ishola, the son of Late Haruna Ishola provided music for the staff and other dignitaries later in the day. All the staff, the political office holders and executives of Lagos State NULGE who attended the ceremony were decked in uniformed Ankara outfit, provided free to them by the council’s NULGE executives, with the support of the council authority.
