Osun Guber: Police embark on show of force

Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force on Friday held a show of force exercise at the Police State Command in Osogbo, Osun State ahead of the State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, July 16, 2022.

This medium had reported that the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Baba Alkali, had revealed that about 21,000 operatives would be deployed for the election.

This comes a few hours before the exercise to be conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in all polling units across the state.

Sirens blare intermittently on streets while police vans conveying security operatives on election duty were sighted at different locations.

There were also police choppers on standby for aerial surveillance, in a bid to ensure adequate security of the process and the electorate.

However general mood in the state capital was calm as most major markets were busy with residents coming out in large numbers for what could be described as last-minute shopping before the election.

Earlier, the police and other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, declared war on vote-buyers and mapped out strategies to checkmate their activities.
