The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Lagos, Chief Solomon Ogbonna Aguene has debunked the rumours that Igbos are planning to attack Lagos. He said it is not possible because Lagos is a blessing land for Ndigbos as many have come to Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre empty-handed but are returning home with wealth. He added that if it is easy for a man to attack his head, then it will be easy for Igbos to attack Lagos. While also encouraging Igbos to participate actively in the upcoming elections, he urged Ndigbos in Lagos to have Babajide Sanwo-Olu as their candidate of choice.

The Head of the sociocultural organization speaking with Trek Africa Newspaper said: ‘Lagos is a blessing land. Yorubaland is a blessing land. We came with empty hand and go triumphantly. We come as tenants and go home as estate owners. We respect Lagos. Nobody can attack Lagos. Even those saying that know they are lying. They don’t want us to settle down. Please they should allow us to settle down because we are settled here even more than where we came from.’

He furthered: ‘I am no. 1 person when you talk about Igbos in Lagos. If anybody issues a statement which does not originate from me as apex leader in Lagos, it is null and void. So when I talk about Igbos, I know what I am saying. I have over 1300 people attending our meetings and we always discuss security. What this Lagos Government has done to Ndigbo, Babajide Sanwo-olu is not just a Governor, he is a friend of Ndigbo. There is no other tribe that Igbo can sleep and snore like the Yorubas especially in Lagos. The Yorubas are the best friend I have since I have been here in 1981. The Igbos would not come and spoil where they have the largest investment and where we have the largest number of Ndigbos anywhere in the world outside of Southeast.’

On the upcoming elections, the culture ambassador stated: ‘When you talk of the Nation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, our President-General, Amb. George Obiozor is in charge so he can discuss Igbos on national level. I do my job in Lagos state. My advice is that we have seen what we have passed through, we should know the way we will cast our votes. It is not after we have cast our votes then we will now be complaining this is good, this is bad. We must vote for the best candidate – what you discussed with your God, don’t just believe in what politicians say.’

Ahead 2023, he drummed support for Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu among Ndigbos. ‘I can tell you that in Lagos where we reside, we must know where to cast our vote and who to cast our votes for so that life will be easy for us. For Lagos state Governor, there is no two ways about it, I am not going to force anyone but if you don’t vote for this man called Babajide Sanwo-olu, you are on your own. There is no other candidate than Babajide Sanwo-olu. We don’t have one party in Lagos but we have the majority. It is as simple as ABC. If we have a Governor and a President that we can work with, life becomes easy for us as Igbos’, he told Trek Africa Newspaper.
