Correctional Service Training School, Kaduna Graduates over 300 Junior Personnel

The Officers and men of the Nigerian Correctional Service, NCoS have been urged to uphold discipline and professionalism in the discharge of their mandate and shun acts capable of jeopardizing the security of the Service.
The Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Nababa FICMC, mni made the call during the Passing out Parade Ceremony of 3rd batch, 234/2021 Basic Recruit Course at the Nigerian Correctional Service Training School, Kaduna.
Represented by the Assistant Controller General on training and staff development, ACG Audu Lawal Gusau, the CG explained that the basic recruit course that cut across physical and psychological exercise was designed to mold their personality and character for effective service delivery.
He therefore pointed to the fact that, the service had zero tolerance for indiscipline and unprofessional conduct, noting that, any act of disobedience to constituted authority and insubordination would be thoroughly dealt with.
The CG emphasized that, there are established channels of communication with regards to official matters as well as expression of grievances, hence the need for them to be properly guided by it through out their career in the service.
Furthermore, he said their graduation came at the time when the service was consolidating on the gains of the several years of reforms by the past administrations.
He commended the commandant of the Correctional Training School CC. Mohammed Isah and the training instructors for their effort in adapting the new training Curriculum as embedded in the Nigerian Correctional Service Act. 2019 which provided for both Custodial and Non-custodial Measures.
In the area of staff welfare, the Controller General Corrections disclosed that building of new barracks and renovation of old ones are ongoing in their various facilities, pointing out that, the Correctional Service Corporative Society, COCOS and the Correctional Welfare Insurance Scheme, CWIS have continued to create better strategies with a view to improving staff welfare for optimal performance.
The CG who identified some notable achiements recorded in recent time within the service to include priority attention on trainning and re-training of personnel, said emphasis had also been shifted from inmates training to guaranteeing their preparation for effective reintergration into the society via community services, restorative justice and parole among others.
According to the CG Haliru Nababa, FICMC mni large number of inmates who sat for the West African Examination Council, WAEC and the National Examination Council, NECO came out with impressive results, adding that no fewer than nine hundred inmates in custody have been admitted into the National Open University of Nigeria, NOUN, with many of them undergoing post graduate courses in different discipline.
Highlights of the event which marked the grand finale of the six months basic recruit course included the display of parade, award of excellence to distinguish graduands on drill, academic, discipline and leadership as three hundred junior personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service passed out from the Correctional Training School, Kaduna.
