Ojomu noted that cashless policy would help in minimising cash-based transaction and fraud in cooperative societies’ administration, through the use of technology as a mechanism put in place.

The provost said that Nigeria was at the age and stage where effective application of digital technology might prove inevitable to the survival of business entities.

Hence the need to take proactive action that would guarantee our continued existence and growth.

Ojomu highlighted the need for the training programme, taking account of needs as cooperative societies in the dynamic world of digitalisation.

“We must ensure that no stone is left unturned in the effort to secure the future of our business operations.

“The training programme would assist cooperative societies in dealing with challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, particularly as they relate to the increasing use of digital technology in the delivery of business operations and services.

“We are resolved to benchmark local cooperative business activities with global standards through this capacity building initiative.

“Such initiative will upscale the managerial competencies and skills set of cooperators toward the deployment of digital technology and expertise in the exploitation of emerging opportunities in the cooperative business environment.”

According to Ojomu, some of the sessions the participants will undergo are: Data Analysis using Excel application, Cyber Security, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Understanding Cooperative Business Model.

Others include: Digital Literacy, Business Planning & Control in Cooperative Management, Economic Self-Reliance and Digital Transformation Strategy amongst others.

He implored the participants to take maximum advantage of the training and ensure they get the best out of it.

Earlier, The Registrar of the College, Mrs Risikat Osomo, said the training would help the cooperators improve their administration.

Osomo stated that 100 participants registered for the training programme, adding that it was opened to all cooperators across Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Lagos State Cooperative College is the tertiary institution arm of the Lagos State Government with the mandate of providing sound cooperative education and high skill manpower for cooperative movement.

It also provides economic empowerment as a channel for acquisition of appropriate entrepreneurial skills.
